August 2008:   Nonsubscribers Must File Forms to DWC
The state-required notices for both nonsubscribing and subscribing businesses have been revised to reflect the change in administration from the Texas Workers Compensation Commission (TWCC) to the new Division of Workers Compensation (DWC) at the Texas Department of Insurance.

June 2008:   PENALTY DEADLINE IS SET FOR June 6, 2008 / NONSUBSCRIBERS MUST FILE REQUIRED DWC FORMS
The (TDI) Texas Department of Insurance Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) reports that administrative penalties will be levied against nonsubscribing businesses that have not filed the Employer’s Notice of No Coverage or Termination of Coverage (DWC Form-005) beginning on June 6, 2008. This form is required to be filed EACH year!

June 2007:   Nonsubscriber Legislative Update
We are happy to report that no legislation passed that will affect nonsubscribing employers. The Texas Association of Business and other trade groups managed to prevent any anti-nonsubscriber bills from seeing the Governor's desk. The link in red (above) is a list of the nonsubscriber bills that were filed, but failed in the process.

October 2005:   Important News on New TXDOT Insurance Requirement/HB 2702
(HOUSEHOLD GOODS CARRIERS MUST PROVIDE WORKERS’ COMPENSATION OR ACCIDENTAL INSURANCE)

As of September 1, 2005 household goods carriers are required to provide either workers’ compensation insurance or accidental insurance coverage for their employees. If a household goods carrier chooses the accidental insurance option, Section 643.106 of the Transportation Code provides that the coverage must be obtained from a reliable insurance company approved by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) that is authorized to write accidental insurance policies in this state or a surplus lines insurer under specific sections of the Texas Insurance Code.
